SIBERIAN CAT RESCUE GROUP IS DISBANDING

501 (c)  (3) tax exempt public charity recognized by the IRS

established 2002

We operate solely on donations.  Our adoption fee is $175.00 , most of the time it barely covers medical expenses.

Siberian Cat Rescue was re-formed in June of  2002 under the name of Siberian Cat Rescue Group when Ivan our first rescue kitty was located in a shelter and needed some assistance in finding a new home. SCRG will also assist in the rehoming of Siberians if the owner is no longer able to keep their kitties rather than have one turned into a shelter.  We encourage breeders and pet owners alike to please let their family members know we are here if you should become incapacitated or in the event of a death we would be able to assist in the placement of your cats.    SCRG is a  non-profit organization.  We are run by a Board of Directors with volunteers from all over assisting us in placement, fostering and what ever else needs to be done.  Our major fund raising is done through our fund raising page and through generous donations from the Siberian community.  This breed is becoming very popular and with this will come the need for Siberian Cat Rescue.

WHAT IS A SIBERIAN CAT?..... A bit of history.

Siberian Cats were first imported from Russia into the United States by Elizabeth Terrell of Starpoint Cattery in Louisiana in June of 1990.  The Siberian is the native cat of Russia.  A Siberian is a long haired cat coming in all colors and patterns.  They are a medium large cat with a large round head with rounded ears and eyes and a very hefty body although some pet quality Siberians may lack this heft.  Photos of Siberians will appear throughtout this web site, some photos will be of show quality Siberians and some of pet quality so you may see some of the differences.  SCRG will concentrate its efforts on all Siberians in the United States and Canada as the need arises.

SCRG is very grateful to those " friends" of the Siberian Cat who have sent and continue to send very generous donations.  We also want to thank the "unknown" angels who sent food to our foster home during our puppy mill rescue of 6 Siberians cats and kittens in September 2002.  These donations make it possible for us to continue our work helping other Siberians who may need our assitance in the future.

IVAN
IvanGreeleyCO.JPG
Rescued in Colorado June 2002

Ivan was found in a shelter in Colorado turned in by his previous owners with all their other pets as they were unable to care for them.  Ivan has found a wonderful home and still lives in Colorado with two other Siberian kitties.  His owner tells us he rules the roost.  Quite scared when he was rescued he has now turned into a wonderful head butting lap kitty.  Rescue kitties like Ivan have no idea why they are in a shelter.  They have no idea where their families went.  They may become withdrawn, even depressed and very confused depending on the amount of time they are in the shelter.  Ivans new family gave him time, space and a lot of attention to turn him into the loving household pet he is today.  It could takes weeks or in Ivans case months to gain the kitties trust.    But in the end it is worth every minute of it.
